Mortality Mask is a mixed media sculpture from Trent Manning’s 2016 Sundance Film Festival collection. It measures 26″ x 13″ x 15″ and retails for $3,750.00. This was Trent’s second showing at the Silver Queen and highly anticipated after his 2015 collection SOLD OUT by day two of the eleven day festival. His works are collected internationally and sell as quickly as Trent can make them. Each piece is handcrafted in his private studio from found objects, clay, wood and fibers. Mortality Mask’s body was carved from wood, his arms and hands are recycled metal wrapped in fiber. One of his legs is metal the other wood. His feet were cut from bowling pin tops then split in half. The head and mask were sculpted from clay and brought to life by Trent’s lifelike brushstrokes of acrylic paint. The sculpture is mounted on an antique demo chair. These miniatures chairs were used in the fifties by traveling sales men. Life size chairs were hard to carry door to door so companies produced smaller ones to demonstrate the quality and design to the home buyer. Mortality Mask is truly a one-of-a-kind sculpture and would make an excellent edition to any collection. Trent’s macabre yet whimsical esthetic tells a fascinating story and will be the topic of conversation and thought for a lifetime to come.
